Sometimes you don’t have to travel far to experience something special. Zeeland proves it perfectly: peace, space, and a touch of elegance on the Dutch coast. Our day began with history and ended with sun, sea, and culinary delight — and everything in between felt like a small escape from the everyday.
An impressive start in Ouwekerk
We began the day with a visit to the Watersnoodramp Museum in Ouwekerk. Even the drive there is an experience in itself: scenic roads lined with sailboats, beach houses, and the vast Zeeland landscape.
The museum is an absolute must-visit. Housed in four massive caissons — once used to close the dike — it tells the story of the 1953 North Sea Flood. The exhibition shows how people lived, fought, and rebuilt their lives. Moving, powerful, and unforgettable.
Domburg – style by the sea
After the museum, we continued on to Domburg, my favorite coastal village in the Netherlands. The town exudes charm: narrow streets, characterful boutiques, and a relaxed atmosphere that only true seaside towns possess.
Beyond shopping, you can unwind at beach clubs such as Oaxaca and Oase – stylish spots where you can enjoy a drink or a light lunch with a view of the sea.
In the village center, a stop for ice cream at ’t Begin is a must. And for those who love local specialties, Zeeland’s delicacies are in abundance. On Mondays, the lively weekly market adds an extra layer of charm.
Lunch in style & dinner with flair
For lunch, we chose the iconic Badhotel Domburg, located in the heart of the village. The hotel is as elegant as it is welcoming, with a beautiful garden and comfortable chairs in the sun – the perfect spot for a long, relaxing lunch.
In the evening, we dined at El Fuego, the best Mexican restaurant in the Netherlands. On the menu: flavorful enchiladas, burritos, and a perfectly cooked Argentine steak. A warm, lively atmosphere that ended the day on the highest note.
In conclusion
Zeeland surprised us once again. From powerful history to coastal chic in Domburg – it was a day full of contrasts, but with one constant: pure experience.
